Drill Stem Test (DST) Procedure

1. Initial Flow Period

Open the downhole valve only. This allows reservoir fluids to enter the drill stem. The surface valve remains closed to build up pressure in the tubing. Duration: 3-6 minutes (simulated from 30-60 minutes).

2. Initial Shut-in Period

Close all valves. This allows pressure to build up to the original reservoir pressure. The pressure buildup curve provides data on reservoir permeability and skin factor. Duration: 6-12 minutes (simulated from 60-120 minutes).

3. Main Flow Period

Open both downhole and surface valves. This allows fluid to flow from the reservoir to the surface. The flow rate and pressure data provide information on well productivity. Duration: 6-24 minutes (simulated from 60-240 minutes).

4. Final Shut-in Period

Close all valves again. This final pressure buildup provides the most accurate data on reservoir properties. The pressure vs. time plot during this period is used for analysis. Duration: 6-24 minutes (simulated from 60-240 minutes).
